HOW DO WE DO IT?

We have two aims - to get teachers to subscribe to our email services and to persuade them to read the emails we send them.

We meet these two aims through the mechanism of running email news services for teachers.  We launched our first email news service in January 2001 and have been developing the approach ever since.

Thus all the teachers who sign up, do so because they want news and information.  They also welcome the idea of being able to communicate with the editors directly - and they always get a response to each email.

To give one example of this, the first  email that went out to the subscribers of the Careers and Sixth Form news group was about careers in the NHS.  Within minutes, we received an email back asking for details of the department of the NHS that could send a speaker into a school.  We found it and let the teacher know later the same day -- by which time half a dozen other enquiries had come in, and all had received a full reply from us.
